Expirly

According to Recycle Track Systems, Americans waste about 60 million tons of food per year. Furthermore, each individual American wastes about 325 pounds of food per year. Expirly keeps track of expiration dates of products to prevent excessive waste. The user is tasked with taking care of a fish and its habitat, with both’s health dependent on how frequently the user disposes products on-time and properly. Paired with a fridge, the app notifies the user when a product is reaching expiry and how to dispose of it properly. At the time of disposal, the user is prompted to use their phone’s camera to confirm it. Once confirmed, the user is rewarded with more healthy organisms joining the habitat.

In my course ARGD4190: Digital Platforms & Dynamic Media, we created Ai-powered apps to be of service to users. See below for research, brand guidelines, and a full walk-through of the app. Click here to go through Expirly yourself.
